It was my work car. Run hard every day 7 days a week. Got tired seeing White VW Foxes every day. (And now I never see a Fox at all, Geez).
Anyways, I had it off the road for about a year and a half. Sooo....
Started painting it....spray cans, Rust paint.
Did green and ran out of paint, it looked like a watermelon!! Added some flat black. Added more green.,Hmm.....
So after a year I 'd just add a little every once in a while. I got to a point where I was going to "do one more little bit" and stopped short of doing it.LOL. Artist's saying: "When you want to add one more thing, it's done!"
Then when I got it back on the road, Hurst T handle, Grant Classic wheel, the wife (then future wife..) suggested the seat covers and we started just adding tacky stuff for the sake of tackiness. LOL.
It just kind of took it's own shape.
I had people follow me to say how much they liked it. Had a girl walk by once and say "So THAT'S the Fox I heard about".
Had a courier bike guy stop beside me and say "Cool paint job Dude."
This, in a city of 5 000 000 people!!
It was a courier car so was ALL OVER the place. It even saved me a ticket once as the cops were just looking at it and discussing it. LOL.
We eventually moved to a small village and one of the local kids called it "The Coolest car in Clfford." (the town.)
It mostly got positive reactions. Though guys in BMW's very blatantly ignored it in traffic. HAHAHA.
I used to say "It's not a job, it's an attitude!!"
I miss that car. It was a LOT of fun! I even drove it 100 000 km (60 000 miles) with no third gear before putting a tranny in!! And THAT was after getting stuck in a snowbank for 2 1/2 hours on a back road with a 9 month pregnant wife and coming back onto the highway with ONLY 4th gear!!!!! But that's another story....... |

| I even drove one winter with no heat. heater core had a split where the hose went in (what a MESS!!) so ran a hose between the waterpump and block. Used it to haul firewood too through 3 foot deep snow on a small rise by piling the wood on the hood for traction!!! that wee car WORKED for a living and even that year ran 400 km a (250 miles) day 5 days a week, 200 being in city traffic!! |
