i am frequently parousing the local wrecking yards for parts and yesterday i found a 92 golf with a set of eibach sportlines on it and a set of snowflakes so i scooped them up quick before someone else did i also found a set of passat type door handles on the same car. anyways i put the springs on my wagon last night they fit perfectly. i think i'll put the upper perches i got from the golf on the rear cause the ass is lower than the front... kind of annoying could be because of the 50 pound speaker box. maybe i'll take it out but even with the ass draggin it handles awesome! i'll post some pics as soon as i get the snowflakes cleaned up a little.

allright... the brakes are done it was a little too easy, the only problems i had were bleeding the lines hell i didn't even have to cut any lines i just bent the hard lines a little and the fitting went right in to the rubber one that came with the new calipers. pedal feel is a little spongy but i think i'll have les schnobs take a look at it when i get my alignment i havent looked into it for a while but i think i'm gonna eng up gettin a new master cylinder. as for the e-brake cable... i may have also found a solution to that i'm gonna go get one from a golf and one from a passat i saw at the yard too and i'll let ya know what i find.. anyways here are some pics of the finished work.

i had to zip tie the e brake cables for now gonna take some gettin used to without it but damn... dont they look purdy??

so it's been a week now and everything is holding up pretty well. the brakes work really well a little too well... i had to make a quick stop and the left rear locked up. it was kinda cool cause the car pitched sideways a little... thank god it wasn't raining. i'll be getting new pads all around and some cross drilled rotors for the front sometime soon maybe that will help a bit. if anyone is thinking about this conversion do it! it's cheap and it's worth it!

If you go with the 10.1" fronts from the 16V 'Rocco, you should be balanced out fine - but I think you're going to need the 22mm master cylinder conversion. Talk to Brit on the Vortex about that one when he gets back from Brazil.

Nice looking good. I was always curious bout the rears locking up with discs. I know when I stripped my old fox the rears would lock like crazy lol.

yeah they do lock up before the fronts i heard something about locking the proportioning valve open somehow the wagons have them for extra braking power under load. i think if you jack the back all the way and block it open somehow it should move the brake bias back up front.

There is actually an adjustment by loosening the bolt and moving the return spring mounting point along the slot on the prop valve lever arm. If you observe how the movement of the suspension makes the lever move and understand that the valve is supposed to increase rear brake bias when heavily laden (i.e. suspension more compressed), you'll figure out which way you need to adjust/move the end of the spring to shift brake bias toward the front. If that isn't enough, you'll need to install an adjustable prop valve for the rear lines. (Don't forget it's a dual diagnol circuit if you go that route!!)
I still say, just put the 10.1's up front and you should be golden. The car you got the rears from probably had 10.1's up front to match those rears... When I put the 10.1's on my wagon with stock rear drums, I had to max the prop valve adjustment for rear bias to help compensate for the massive front brake power increase. |

right on i'll check that out when i do the e brake cable this weekend. and just out of curiosity what all do i need to do the 10.1 conversion? is it just the carriers and rotors or do i need the calipers too? and i wanted to upgrade my master cylinder to the 22 mm as well. what do those come on? i hear of people doing it all but they never say what car it's for i'm assuming they come on the cars that already have 4 wheel disc, but if i buy the wrong one i'd have to ick myself in the nuts ya know? anyhow thanks for the advice on the proportioning valve. i've got one out of a mk3 passat if i can't make my existing one work i'll try that.

For 10.1s youll need calipers and carriers. And of course rotors and pads. The 22mm MC came on the 16v roccos, and i believe any other car that came with 10.1s.

Unfortunately, the 22mm master cylinder does not bolt up to the Fox booster and such. Jamie, 'The Brit' on the 'Tex Fox forum, has modified the equipment to work with some cutting and welding. I would search a bit there for more info on the conversion. IIRC, he has offered to perform this modification for other Foxers, as well.
