ok i have a 1989 vw fox, i am having so many problems with this car its not even funny, like one is sometimes in the morning it will krank but wont start. there are so many dents in this thing its not even funny either. One of the problems i have is that i dont have money to keep this car running right, and i was wondering if vw fox club can help me make this car a nice family car. I have a baby on the way and can barely afford food let alone get a good car. so if anyone can help me fund this car let me know plz.

heh heheh. lovin the shift knob i've had the skull on mine since i bought the car 4 1/2 years ago... as far as umm well your situation... congrats on the little dubber spawn... unfortunately as far as finance goes on your project your pretty much on your own. however if you have a wrecking yard or pick a part in your area and you do a lil research you can fix your baby up pretty cheap. i been collecting parts for years. on a meager budget none the less. and i've managed to make a 900 dollar car last 4 1/2 years with well over 350k on the drivetrain.... anyhow if you could be a little more descriptive as to what the car does when it's not starting we could probably be of better service. for example; does it crank and not start? does it start then die? does it not crank at all? first off my advice get yourself a battery terminal cleaner take your cable connectors off the battery and brush them off. while your at it check all your ground wires coming off the battery if any are damaged frayed or turning green replace them. if this isn't the problem try giving it a good tune up but check all your electrical connections |

| thanks you guys, i actually found some of the problems, the reason why it wasnt starting was because the inner pump in the tank was not working right and my fox was not getting enough fuel in the system. I found out also i was not getting spark sometimes but i also found the problem with that was because the negative terminal battery cable was loose and bad at the same time so i replaced the cable and the pump and so far i have not been having any promblems with it. it starts every time now. I also think my main pump might be going bad as well and i might soon have to replace it but well just see what happens for now, but as of now its running fine. The last thing that i have to do to this beast is put a new clutch in it, i can get a new one for perty cheap i just have to put it in. Well this car sat for 2 years without running or moving or nothing so i am guessing the my main problems have to do with fuel and seals. |

| Glad to hear you got it up and running. Ya if its been sitting for a while your gonna have some annoying qwirks and kinks to work out. I know you said you wanted it to be a nice reliable family car. If i were you id invest in a set of good shocks and tires. It will make a world of difference and dramitically change the handling of the car. Personally i feel the stock handling is down right scary-lol |

heheh yeah even with springs my handling is better but the tires i'm running..... long story short i was goin down steven's pass after the leavenworth cruise hit a sharp corner at somewhere around 90 (my speedo don't work) but i hit 4500 rpm in 4th i know 3000 is 70 and lost traction slid into oncoming, back into my lane straightened out and kept going. how i didn't hit anything ... i am a good driver but i think my eibach's and my sick driving skills saved our asses cause i could feel the car wanting to roll over. can you say divine intervention? so anyway... glad you found the problem dude i had a bad ground wire and my car ran like shit when it started first thing to pop into my head. if you get a chance go get yourself a bottle of heet. it's a yellow bottle dump it in with a full tank of gas that will evaporate the moisture from the tank and clean out the gunk from old sediment in the lines i've used it several times on older cars that sat for long periods. works really good |

| oh ok i will have to try that, ive used fuel injector cleaners and such trying to get the injects clean. Its wierd how like once a month it just does not want to start and i can not find the problem, ive been wondering is maybe it could be a clog in the fuel line or if maybe my main pump is not working right sometimes because it makes wierd noises when you turn the key on, lol cant explain the sound with typing but its just wierd im thinking of just replacing it hoping that it will resolve one of my problems. Oh and today i just got through replacing the coolant resavoir, the old one had a really bad crack on the top of it and i was loosing coolant like crazy |

here is a pic of the seats i have in the car as you can tell they are not stock seats. these seats were given to me, they came out of a 1985 944 porsche :) there a little beat up, but i plan on getting them fixed when i have the money to do it. I know a guy that said he would do it for 300 bucks and make them any color i want d:) |

| Are those seats actually mounted in or did you just sit them in there for picture purposes? If so how did you mount them in? Looks pretty cool tho. Even cooler if you got them to fit with little modification-lol. As far as your fuel system, with a car thats been sitting like that id go ahead and replace all the basic fuel components, pump, filter, etc. Simply bc its been sitting. Or drive on the hwy pretty hard a couple times and "blow it out" lol. That usually works for me hahaha. |

my seats are mounted, the problem with these seats is that they sat way to low, so what i did is went down to a steel mill and bought 12 feet of 3" steel square tubing then cut that piece into 4 even peaces. Mounted the square tubing to the car and the seats on top of the square tubing wich lifted the seats up 3" higher so the seats would sit high enough so you can see over the steering wheel, it worked out very nicely. Im saving my money right now to reapulster<---(i know i cant spell lol) the seats and make them a different color.
and for my fuel system i have replaced the transfer pump in the tank, and i just bought a main pump that i will be putting in later this week.
another thing i did to my fox is that i got rid of my second muffler, the reason for this is because my muffler broke, it looked like the exaust pipe got shoved into the muffler and destroyed it, so what i did is took out the muffler and welded in a pipe to the back of the car and now it sounds awsome. |

| so far all together i have changed out all the fuel pumps, replaced the lifters, the new exaust, replaced all my wheel berings, put some new turbo fuel injectors, replaced all my belts, and got my ac to work finally lol. But now my heater does not work, the heater core took a crap on me lol, went out right when winter starts, real nice. lol, and thats perty much it for now, the only thing i really need to do now is replace my clutch and figure out why my car does not have much throttle when it is started cold, it high idles ok, But it just does not have the throttle. My first thought is just because its a old car but i dont know, As long as it gets me to point a to point b without breaking down on me lol and i am all good. |
