It depends on how 'bling' you want to go...
You can get stock style (i.e. 9.4" solid) slotted from ATE. They call them 'Power Disks'. The slotting is not the traditional style - it's more like the pattern people use to represent an electron path in an atom... In any event, I recommend their rotors because they are the OEM for our brakes and they are smart about how they incorporated the slots. The slots are cast when the rotor is made - not machined after. Post machining slots in cast iron can result in localized 'stress risers' that develop into cracks when subjected to repeated thermal cycling. These risers don't exist when the slot is an integral part of the casting. I have a set of 10.1's with almost 200,000 miles (No BS!) on them that are still working fine - no cracking, warping, etc.. I *might* have to replace them when I do the next set of pads. (The next set would be number 5 on these rotors...) Oh yeah, they only cost like a dollar more than stockers! I have put these on every VW I have any influence over with zero problems or failures. (My Fox - 10.1 vented, Wife's old MkII Jetta - 9.4 vented, Mother in Law's MkIV Jetta - 11 vented, and wifes B5 Passat GLX - 11 vented)
If you're gonna do brakes, you might as well bite the bullet and put the 16V 'Rocco's on there. |

I just went through your profile a little. You're ZIP is 30075 right? I'll see if I can find a set through some of the local salvage yards and get a price for 10.1's with UPS to your ZIP. Keep checking here - you may have to act fast to get them.
<edit> OK- just placed part requests with 4 or 5 German Salvage specialists on the west coast... I'll let you know if I get any hits. |

Got a little bit of a response from one company today, but all they mentioned in their email to me was calipers. I told them I really need the carriers, but haven't heard back yet...
Stay tuned... |

Brembo's website is www.brembo.com and there is an 800 number on the website for the North American Headquarters which is located in Costa Mesa, CA. I downloaded(PDF)their entire catalog and the Fox is located on page 82 of 85 pages. When I attempted to print page 82 I was prompted that I could not print a specific page. I do not have enough trees here in the desert to print the entire catalog!
Actually, I discovered how to print only one page while using the Adobe Reader. You can access a small page on the left that you can scroll to the desired page and by clicking on it print the specific page that you desire. |

You have stated that you may or may not use Brembo so I have a lead that may help you. There is a company here in Southern California called I Rotors(951-736-9211 and they will build whatever you want; calipers, rotors, pads; the whole package including any size that you heart desires. Give them a call. This information also comes from Brembo of North America. |

Don't skimp on the sauce. Make sure you put ATE's 'Super Blue Racing' fluid in there. It's kinda pricey compared to the crap they'll sell you at the local auto store, but it's money well spent. Last time I bought it I paid something like $12-15 per liter.
The Super Blue has a considerably higher boiling point than standard DOT-4, so it resists brake fade a better than regular DOT-4. You are going to be developing quite a bit of heat if you go with aggressive brake pad compounds - especially with 9.4 rotors. Please tell me you aren't getting cross-drilled units... Slotting is ALL you should do for street applications. You are going vented, right? |
