Cool deal. I think you're going to be pleasantly surprised by that sucker.
As for close fit: The main trouble spot in my experience is where the stainless braided fuel lines run over the Intake Mani. I put a piece of 'magnetic tape' (the stuff they make magnetic business signs for vehicles out of) on the under-side of the hood so that I didn't have any metal on metal rubbing going on under there. Good mounts, like the E-30's you were looking for on the 'Tex, as well as the Rabbit/A1 front race mount from TT and a fresh trans mount at the gearbox will help keep the motor from wiggling around too much and scraping the hell out of things...
When I lost my front snubber/mount, I ended banging the timing cover up into the hood and denting a portion of the reinforcing cross bracing. |

| Well boys the car is officially completed. Got the new alternator on today and its DONE. Was cruising around all day, well the portion that i had left-lol. It runs good and pulls nicely, but i still need to open up my exhaust. Looks sick with the wheels bronzed. Ill take pics for you guys 2morrow. |

Are you still using the stock manifold and downpipe?!?! If you haven't upgraded to the dual outlet yet, you haven't experienced what it is to have a 2L Fox. The stock pipes suck for the 9:1 1.8L and are no where near adequate for the 10:1 2.0L. |

| yea im still running stock exhaust. Thats next on my list. My clutch is going REALLY fast tho. Its the old clutch from the 1.8 that seemed to still be pretty good. Right now i cant adjust it anymore and theres not much pressure as far as pedal feel goes, so the clutch is gonna be gone pretty soon. Dunno y tho, i only did 2 clutch drops-lol |

| Well, I guess you'll have to do the clutch right quick. Then do the pipes. (Crappy pipes won't leave you stuck on the side of the road - do the clutch so you can keep on driving...) There has been some recent talk about upgraded clutches from Spec on, ahem, another site. You don't really 'need' one, unless you intend to just keep beating the living poop out of your clutch. I haven't found 'clutch dropping' to produce very good results - not counting the extra abuse on the driveline. Best launches I've found are with the revs at about 1800-2000, let the clutch out quickly and smoothly while feeding in just a bit more throttle. As soon as the clutch is fully out, feed in the rest of the throttle quickly, say about 2/10's of a second till it's on the floor. This tends to put me right at the edge of spinning the wheels from launch thru 25 or so mph. (i.e., the steering wheel just barely dancing side to side as they lose traction ever so slightly on anything that is on the pavement.) You may not have the same results without the pipes, though. The dual pipes make a huge difference in torque delivery across the rev range. With breathing handicapped, you may have to keep beating the crap out of it to get it going. (BTW, you're not getting the goods from your cam with stock pipes either.) As I recall, you have a G-grind in a solid lifter head. With that cam and a 2L, the stock pipes are probably costing you somewhere in the neighborhood of 15-20 hp. You should be making close to 120hp with that set up (if you're tuned reasonably well) - I wouldn't bet you're making 100hp on the stock pipes, if that. |

| damn now that is the ULTRA suck. 20hp just from my crappy exhaust, damn shits killing me. But i dont clutch drop the car to launch, only when i want to see how well of a burnout the 2.0l will do. And to my amazement i was very suprised, nice and smokey. Now when i get a new clutch ima have to try dropping it with the ebrake up-lmao! I do plan on upgrading to spec clutches tho, simply because i drive the living day lights out of my car, and i need something thats gonna stand up to the abuse. Right now im looking at picking up the stage2+ kit pretty soon, and getting the flywheel lightened. We will see how that works out. |

Even on poop pipes, the 2L is torquey enough to some pretty excellent burnouts. The pipes just keep you from breathing in the power zone. The torque is better with the pipes, too. The TT DP has very long secondary exhaust runners, so it makes a lot of torque improvement in the midrange.
Are you still using a 4 speed or did you upgrade to the 5? |
