Hello everyone my name is Jeremy, I am 22 and I live in Valley Springs, California. I created this site because through all of the searching of the net I had not see a club dedicated to the fox, so I created one.

I suppose I should say hello again - and welcome to some of our newer members.

I'm Damon, 35, happily married, and father of one. I live in Livermore, CA - far eastern side of S.F. Bay Area. I work in Fremont, CA (northern end of the Silicon Valley) as well as running an additional CAD business from my home. I am a Mech'l Engineer out of San Jose State in 2000. I've been doing this Fox thing for quite a while and glad to see that the Fox community has continued grow and strengthen in the last 10 years.

I'm one of the moderators here, so feel free to contact me if you need some assistance on the site and I will try to be of service.

Hello fellow Foxers!

Well, I suppose that I have the privilege of being the "old man" of the forum(52 years old) and live in Landers, California in the Hi-Desert. I have a 1993 Fox GL Sedan with a Digifant I system and I thoroughly enjoy this forum so kudos to Jeremy and, of course, "the touge" as well as the one and only snowfox!

Hello,

My name is Eric, I'm 32, married and I live in Central,FL. A few years back around 1998 my friends and I started a car club in South Florida called Autobahn touring. At the time, I had an '89 2dr fox, burgundy w/tan interior. I had the following done to the vdub:

Engine: 1.8L, CIS-E fuel injection, K&N drop-in, ported and polished head, T.T. adjustable camshaft sprocket, dasher dual manifold, T.T. downpipe, T.T. cat-back exhaust(dynomax muff), hollowed cat, g-grind cam, replace hydralic lift. (ported and polished 4's T.B., which I never got to install).

Tranny: originally 4speed, which was swapped out for an Audi 4000s 5speed quattro (had plans on making it awd). Guy that installed tranny said he would not install it, since the rear yoke of the tranny would be free spinning and might have done damage to car. Took tranny back to boneyard and picked up regular 5sp tranny from 4's and had that installed, I was never was concerned with reverse since all I needed was first-fifth. I also purchased Sachs sport cluch for 4's

Brakes: Audi 4's calipers/carrier, hawk street pads, ATE 10.1" slotted/vented rotors. Rear=stock

Wheels: 14" A1 rabbit GTI w/ bridgestone eagers. Wish I could have picked up a set of the 15" 3pcs BBS.

Suspension: Hor Technology springs, bilstein strut inserts upfront, bilstein shocks in rear.

Interior: MOMO suede steering wheel, MOMO shifter, double layer tint(neutral w/limo), Canadian instrument culster (K.P.H.),RPM, LCD clock.

Extras: Hella air horns, 7x6 H-4 headlight assem w/city lights, 16v roof mount antenna.

I believe thats it! If I remember anything else I will edit this entry.

Thanks,

Eric.

Hi my name is Jamie, recently bought my first Fox. I have wanted a wagon for several years and closely missed out on 2 different occassions. I ended up with a 1990 2dr coupe, It has 4spd trans and 188,000km on it. I got it very cheap and that is why I "settled for the coupe. After checking it over for a safety inspection. It needs L outer tie rod end and 2 control arm bushings. Has new brakes and new tires. It has lots of rust but has never had any bodywork so at least there is no hidden stuff.
I am still going to watch for a wagon.
*******
UPDATE: purchased a 1988 4dr GLS 5spd parts car in Dec/06
purchased a 1988 FOX WAGON 5spd w/tach and Audi GT seats on Jan 13/07 not a beauty but solid. Patience!

3foxes, 2mk2golfs, 2explorers,too many old Ford trucks

Not to piss in your cornflakes, but 20 hp out of exhaust on a (virtually) bone stock Fox is not realistic. If you're doing the full deal - head to tail pipe - you can hope for 10-12. Even that might be optimistic. It's only a 9:1 1.8L, so don't set your expectations too high...

Ooops-

I just read your post again. It will definitely be CAM TIME as you put it - but it'll take more than just slapping one in there and calling it good. If you're going for 100+ whp, you might as well plan on pulling the head. Since you've got a 93 (and I'm assuming that it has the stock top end), you already have a 'big valve' head (40mm int./33mm exh) and a 'big' throttle body (52mm secondary throttle plate). You will need to have it at least gasket matched to your intake manifold and your new dual outlet exhaust manifold (required for doing the 'full' exhaust system)- full port and polish would be even better. 3 angle valve job will also be required. You will also need to have the head shaved a bit to get your compression ratio up a bit. Aim for 10.0 - 10.5:1. The amount you need to have it decked will be dependent on the combustion chamber volume and current piston height. A decent machine shop can do this part for you. Depending on how deep your pockets are, you may want to change out your valve seals to allow you to use the x-flow valves with 7mm stems and use a set of mkIV lifters, since they're lighter. With Digi engine management you will have a tough time getting a BIG cam to run right - a 272 is probably about your practical limit. (If you had Digi II instead of the Fox's Digi I you would be able to chip it to allow proper fueling on a bigger cam.) You will likely need to also change out your fuel pressure regulator with a 4.0 bar unit and look for some better flowing injectors. Yes, an adjustable cam gear will be required. All together, that should net you a realistic 110 whp, maybe 115 if it's done really well and tuned right.

It will definitely take more than 'exhaust' to pick up the next 20 ponies - unless by exhaust you mean something with a little snail shaped turbine in it.

not to cut you down but all that stuff about big valve i knew a long time ago. i'm not a fox noob like most think. and unless YOU have dyno'd your car and can show me numbers please stop telling me what i need. i am always welcome for input and i didn't know about the digi1 stuff thanks. but the basic motor stuff i think i got in the bag. i also understand about the cam. i'm going to dyno my car after exhaust before cam and i'll let you know how that works out. fyi i was going to do the gli/gti cam not some wild thing. this is my daily driver and has to stay rock solid. i put down 80whp on only intake, stock is 81 crank. it can be done without removing the head.

Dont be so defensive bro.......be eeeeaaaaasy-lol. Snow is surely not trying to tell you what to do just dropping some insight on what is going to be needed to get 100wheel on the stock motor. 20 hp isnt "too" hard, but 20whp is a lot harder. Will u get it with the exhaust and cam on stock block and head.....nope. You could try to run a big cam but like he said you wont be able to get it to run well. My personal opinion just spend the money u gonna spend on exhaust and cam on an aba. They cheap. Or a 3a.

thats the thing i thought my fox only made 70 whp. then i dyno'd it and it made 80!!! i really think the combo of my intake + exhaust will get me really close to 100 whp then the cam should make it money. than after the wagon is going aba/3a my 2-door and make flippen sweet numbers .

ps i will dyno after the tt cat-back and then the duel outlet mani/down pipe. then camming it. see what numbers i really get. my goal is 100whp without taking the head off.

Hello everyone, my name is Joe.

I have an '88 4-door fox. I bought it as a second car, but it quickly became my primary car. I really enjoy driving it. I have not done any mods....yet. I joined this forum to get ideas as to what can, and should, be done.
