hello all my name is jesse and i just purchased a 1988 vw fox gl sport that has the 5 speed tranny. i wanted a good reliable car that i could use for collage and a fun toy i can work on and have fun with without braking the bank, lol. but im having sokme trouble my fuel pump wont turn on and if i run it direct the cylinders will get flooded and the its hard to turn over and once some fuel is cleared out i try to start it again it turns on for about 30 second and then turns right back off,can any 1 help me? and what suspension mods can be done to this car? well thanx and i hope to post aa pic of my car soon
when u say run the fuel pump direct are u referring to the jumper relay method? as far as your starting issue id do a full tune up, make sure your timing is right and your firing order is right as well. For suspension mods......eh its pretty meek. Check out the suspension forums and see if u find what youre looking for. If not feel free to post up, and welcome to the forums.
welcome. the fuel pump problem may be a bad relay. you weren't very specific on your description of "direct wiring" the fuel pump. even if you are bypassing that relay your engine should still run, what i would check first is are all your sensors plugged in? especially the coolant temp sensor located on the coolant neck that goes into the side of the head. next i would check for vaccum leaks when i got my wagon several of the hoses from the idle bypass valve were cracked causing the car to idle very badly and die after a few seconds. basically what you need to do to find a vaccum leak is get yourself a can of CRC (clean-r-carb) in the red can. it has the same values of 87 octane gas. spray very lightly around your lines and the idle will change if you have a leak of any kind. my philosophy with any vehicle is start simple it could save you a lot of money. that's just my 2 pennies
